Patrick D. Hale, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer, VITAS Healthcare

Patrick oversees all aspects of large-scale IT operations and provides leadership to call centers and Telecare operations for VITAS Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of end-of-life care. His experience includes multiple business verticals such as healthcare, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, financial services, retail, and government. Patrick is part of a senior management team that has successfully steered the organization through rapid, continued growth.

Patrick has worked in leadership roles in the information technology field for more than 25 years. Earlier in his career, he served as chief technology officer of Sparrow Health System, the premier healthcare provider in mid-Michigan, which supports nearly 500,000 outpatient procedures and 100,000 emergency room visits per year. Under Patrick’s IT leadership, Sparrow Health was named “Top Healthcare Industry Innovator” in the 2012 InformationWeek 500, a ranking of the most “tech savvy” companies worldwide. Earlier in his career, he served as chief technology officer for the State of Michigan where he oversaw all aspects of IT infrastructure and enterprise architecture.

Patrick has spoken at the Federal Government’s CIO Summit, the National Association of State CIOs, and the CIO Leadership Network, among others. Throughout his career, Patrick has received numerous awards and accolades including his 2017 win as a top South Florida chief information officer by the South Florida Business Journal. He is deeply involved in local and national groups working to advance healthcare through technology innovation. Patrick Co-chairs the South Florida Hospital and Healthcare Association’s HIT Committee. He is a member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives. He was also a founding member of Project Management Institute’s mid-Michigan chapter.
