Gary Beach – Publisher Emeritus CIO Magazine, Author and Columnist

Gary is well known in CIO and Tech leadership circles as a forward-thinking innovator and commentator on the state of our industry. Gary is a long-standing friend of the CIO Council and has provided keynote services as well as panel moderation at recent past events.

Gary has worked in the technology media industry since 1981, serving in management roles at McGraw-Hill and the International Data Group (publisher of Network World, Computerworld, and CIO Magazines). Gary has a current focus on the state of STEM education in America. He publishes a blog on cio.com entitled “Science and Math Imperative” addressing this issue.

For the past 10 years, he has written a column in the print edition of CIO Magazine and dandled news and information requests from the media. He has appeared in The New York Times, CNBC Squawk Box, CNBC Closing Bell, The San Francisco Chronicle, USA Today and the AP. For four years, Gary provided technology commentary for NPR’s All Things Considered and Morning Edition programs.

In 1994, he founded Tech Corps, a national non-profit dedicated to challenging IT executives to get involved in K-12 education in America. He was also a member of the board of directors for Net Day (1996-2000).
